    Celebrating the Crone:
Power & Wisdom in the Second Half of Life

    View additional workshop photographs.

Mythology often divides a woman's life into three powerful stages, the maiden, the mother and the crone. Yet, negative stereotypes of old women and personal fears of aging prevent us from realizing the many blessing of age and the joys of maturing, ripening and coming into wisdom during the second half of our lives. Women's health and well-being requires a re-vision of aging and a reclamation of the crone.

    The Workshop included:

  • Informal presentations
  • Experiential exercises
  • Group process
  • Mask Making
  • Celebration, Re-creation, and Ritual

  • Dr. Royda Crose, on the occasion of her 60th birthday, celebrated with women of all ages in recognition of the maiden (the little girl), the mother (the nurturing women), and especially the crone (the wise elder) within each of us. Mothers, daughters, sisters and friends joined together in women's space for a weekend of exploring, learning and honoring womanhood throughout the lifespan. Through reflection, music, poetry, story-telling, mask-making, meditation and connection with nature, we discovered our power as women in all phases of our lives. The workshop ended with a croning ceremony for those women who felt ready to be honored as elders in the community of all women.
